FGM is not aware of any specific efforts to develop Glebe Mountain at this time. FGM will remain vigilant.
FGM has spoken directly with several individuals involved with Volkswind's visit to Londonderry during the week of July 12th. Our reading of the situation is as follows:
The possibilty of a new project atop Glebe has received some local attention with the publishing of articles by Vermont Tiger and by The Manchester Journal. The identities of the "supporters" of an industrial wind plant atop Glebe, alluded to by Volkswind in the Manchester Journal article, are unknown. As the article clearly suggests, there is no support for an industrial wind plant atop Glebe amongst local political candidates, the Londonderry Select Board, or our colleagues at the Glebe Mountain Group. For the record, contrary to Volkswind's assertion in this article, FGM did not meet with the company during its visit.
For now, FGM plans to continue to do what it has been doing since our reactivation a few weeks ago; namely,
Please encourage others to become informed by visiting FGM's web site as well as to engage in FGM's effort to preserve and protect Glebe Mountain by becoming a FGM member. The current town plans of Londonderry and Windham are designed to safeguard the well being of our environment, economy and quality of life. Your support would be much appreciated.
Volkswind, a German industrial wind developer - operating in the USA out of Portland, Oregon with a regional representative in Boston - is making inquiries regarding a possible development on Glebe Mountain.
To the best of our knowledge, Volkswind is engaging Glebe land owners in exploratory talks with the hope of moving towards a formal proposal. A Volkswind USA representative will be visiting the area to walk the mountain and speak with land owners the week of July 12th - 16th.
In response to this possible threat - which is totally at odds with the Town Plans of Londonderry and Windham which prohibit industrial scale wind atop Glebe- Friends of Glebe Mountain has been reactivated. Visit this site's How you can help page to see how you can contribute.
